Art Intent at Alderton Junior School

The Alderton Junior School Art curriculum has  been designed to develop learners who are confident across all areas of art and design and allow all children to experience the many forms of art; mark making, drawing, ceramics, textiles, printing and painting. They will learn how to mix colours and respond to the work of other artists and cultures as well as creating 3-dimensional work, ensuring everyone has a chance to experiment and build on their skills.

The art topics support the wider creative curriculum of the school (for example: studying the local artist Jacob Epstein in year 3 during a local area study, experimenting with 3D art-work during the study of the Egyptians in  year 4 or creating a perspective drawing linked to WWII in year 6) and allow children to deepen their knowledge and understanding through experimentation and investigation. The children are encouraged to respond to feedback and make relevant improvements to their work, thereby developing their skills further.

Art lessons also support our children's social and emotional wellbeing by allowing them the freedom to communicate in a range of different ways.
